Mining in Argentina – May, a turning point for the mining industry
May showed an improvement in the investors’ confidence to the Argentine mining sector. At the beginning of the month, the Arminera Expo in Buenos Aires was the place where many stakeholders –mining companies, good and services suppliers, public sector- agreed that the mining industry is back.
In that way operating and exploring results, also as corporate development, show a clear path for a better future in the near term.
Two metalliferous projects have their construction and production beginning dates. Chinchillas (operated by a JV between Silver Standard and Golden Arrow) will begin construction in the third quarter of the current year, and construction will begin in the second half of 2018. In the other case, Cerro Moro (operated by Yamana Gold) is in full construction, with production expected to begin in early 2018.
Respecting the lithium sector, several projects in different development stages show that Argentina is becoming a more important player in this field. Some examples include the estimate resource at 3Q (Neo Lithium); the beginning of Phase 1 drilling at Cauchari (Advantage Lithium); and the identification of drill targets at Arizaro (Argentina Lithium)
